In a continued show of international support, Australia has committed an additional $60 million in aid to Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia. This announcement was made by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York, emphasizing the broader implications of the conflict for global peace and the rule of international law.

The new aid package comprises $45 million worth of equipment from the Australian Defence Force, $10 million dedicated to Ukraine’s energy support fund, and $5 million in humanitarian assistance. With this latest contribution, Australia’s total aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion in 2022 will reach approximately $1.9 billion.

Alongside this financial commitment, Australia and Ukraine have entered into a 10-year bilateral security agreement. This pact aims to enhance military training and explore cooperation on the development of training facilities and the joint production of air-defense systems, missiles, and drones. Albanese highlighted that the security agreement would remain valuable even after the conflict, providing a foundation for peacetime cooperation between the two nations.

President Zelenskyy expressed appreciation for the agreement, noting that it would bolster collaboration between Ukraine and Australia in areas including security and trade. This partnership underscores the significance of the conflict beyond Ukraine’s borders, impacting global security dynamics.

Prime Minister Albanese reiterated Australia’s commitment to upholding international law, framing the support for Ukraine as part of a broader effort to maintain global order. As the conflict continues, this agreement and aid package mark an important step in international efforts to address the crisis and support Ukraine’s resilience.
