In a continued effort to bolster bilateral relations, Canada has reaffirmed India’s status as a key partner, following a meeting between Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand and Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar. This meeting took place on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where the ministers discussed avenues for cooperation between the two nations.
Describing India as one of the world’s fastest-growing and most dynamic economies, Anand emphasized the importance of strengthening ties with India across various sectors. The dialogue was part of a broader agenda under the Canada-India roadmap, which aims to enhance collaboration in trade, security, energy, mobility, innovation, and defense.
Both ministers expressed commitment to advancing shared priorities and elevating the bilateral relationship. Jaishankar characterized the meeting as productive, highlighting the mutual interest in deepening cooperation. This reflects a strategic approach to take the relationship to a higher level, aligning with global economic trends and mutual benefits.
Beyond this bilateral focus, Anand noted Canada’s broader strategy to diversify its international partnerships. This includes building stronger economic relationships within the Indo-Pacific region, the Gulf, and Latin America, with key economies such as India and China being central to this initiative.
